Laennec's cirrhosis

Introduction

Later stage of cirrhosis secondary to chronic alcoholism.

Pathology

• normal liver lobules are replaced by small regenerating nodules, separated by a fairly regular framework of fine fibrous tissue strands

Complications

• portal hypertension
  • ascites
  • esophageal varices
  • portal hypertensive gastropathy
    • gastric ulcer
    • gastric varices
    • gastritis
