Indications
- sleep disturbance
- excessive daytime sleepiness
- violent sleep-related behaviors or parasomnias
- suspected periodic limb movement disorder
- assessment of optimal CPAP therapy
- assessment of response to therapy
- unexplained pulmonary hypertension
- unexplained polycythemia
- disturbances in respiratory control in patients with daytime hypercapnia
- used to diagnose
- parasomnias
- sleep apnea
Contraindications
- patients with possible mild & minimally symptomatic* obstructive sleep apnea
* snoring, gasping, low lying palate, partner does not note apnea
- regular sleep schedule, awakens feeling rested, no daytime sleepiness or headaches
- oxygen saturation on room air pulse oximetry is normal
