Introduction
In dermatology:
- a macroscopic term referring a firm nodule or plaque that is deeper in the skin
Clinical manifestations
- overlying skin may be erythematous, ulcerated or normal
- deep nodules may be palpable, but not visible at the skin surface
Diagnostic procedures
Differential diagnosis
- nodule with scale or roughened surface
- flesh colored
- red or purple colored
- yellow or orange: xanthoma
- brown: dermatofibroma
- hard nodule (any kind): consider malignancy
- melanocytic nodule
- multiple skin nodules
- rheumatoid nodules
