Introduction

Extended cycle oral contraceptive. (91 day menstrual cycle) Contains ethinyl estradiol 30 ug + levonorgestrel 150 ug

Indications

contraception

Dosage

1 tab QD for 84 days
placebo for 7 days or skip 7 days
restart cycle

Adverse effects

may be more spotting between menstrual periods
migraines during placebo days

Mechanism of action

allows women to cycle every 91 days (seasonally)
contraceptive suppresses endometrial thickening, thus monthly bleeding unnecessary to slough endometrium
