macular telangiectasia (MacTel)

Classification
- Type 1 MacTel
- macular edema
- almost always occurs in one eye
- Type 2 MacTel
- telangiectasias around the fovea
- fluid from leaking blood vessels causes the macula to swell or thicken
- tissue in the macula or the fovea may thin out or form a scar
- Type 2 affects both eyes but not always to same extent
Pathology
- telangiectasias around the fovea
- macular neovascularization may occue
