Introduction
- patulin is a mycotoxin produced by several species of Aspergillus & Penicillium
- it has antibiotic properties but has been shown to be carcinogenic & mutagenic
Epidemiology
Adverse effects
- gastrointestinal distress
- neurotoxic: restlessness, convulsions
- pulmonary congestion
- mutagenic, carcinogenic
