Indications
- evidence-based communication strategy used by clinicians to assess & confirm a patient's understanding of their disease & care instructions.
- provides insight into the patient's knowledge & health literacy
Clinical significance
- it is a way to validate that the clinician has explained information clearly & that the patient comprehends what is required for self-management & adherence
Procedure
- a clinician explains a disease process to the patient & clarifies misconceptions based upon gaining an understanding of the patient's previous knowledge of the disease
