Etiology
Structure
- solid branching structures, made of mucus & other materials
- mirror the shape of the airways they block
Clinical manifestations
- acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation
- development of "marked elevation" of airway pressure
Diagnostic procedures
- urgent bronchoscopy
Complications
- life-threatening acute respiratory failure
Management
- bronchoscopic removal of casts with a cryoprobe[1]
